In 1995 I signed up as an Independent ACN Rep with the intent of saving money and turning an expense, the monthly telephone bill, into an income stream. At that time ACN had a wide range of services including ACN Local Calling, Long Distance and other technologically advanced products as well. However, where I lived, ACN service was not yet available. Meanwhile I discovered Cognigen, which offered the similar basic telephone service for lower cost per minute, zero Rep signup fee, no website or annual renewel fees, and free downloadable training and marketing materials. So Reps were already in profit with Cognigen on the very first product sale. With ACN I would have to make X number of sales just to recover my initial signup fee and break even on the ongoing recurring costs each month and annual renewel fee. Since I could not even try ACN to see if it was better, and being a business-minded person, I cancelled my ACN Rep shortly after I joined. I could not in good conscience recruit others into ACN knowing they could become Cognigen Rep, still save money on their telephone services, and become a Rep if they chose to for free.
There are many places online where you can find ACN Leads. Just Google “ACN leads” and you’ll see over 1.5 million organic listings. Some lead brokers on Google offer free ACN leads so you could theoretically try them first. But to my knowledge ACN policy prohibits buying Leads - so check with ACN policy first.

This type of lead selling behavior should serve as a warning sign. If the upline truly wanted to help the downline they would offer leads free or at cost perhaps to anyone willing to work them.
ACN not only requires substantial customer acquisition but makes it clear that not all Independent Representatives make a profit and no one can be guaranteed success as an ACN Independent Representative. Success can only come through individual specific efforts in acquiring customers and recruiting other Independent Representatives who must also acquire customers. As with any legitimate business it takes some combination of money, resources, and consistent effort over time in order to succeed.
Success as an ACN Representative is determined by each individual’s experience, knowlege, and specific efforts. Not all ACN Independent Representatives make a profit. Profit is the universal term that signifies whether a business is successful or not. Without prfit no business can continue to keep running indefinitely. At some point, without profit, a business must fail.
Some MLM leaders still advocate making a list of 100 family, friends, and acquaintances or using the 3 foot rule to bug everyone you meet to join your opportunity! Others will tell you to buy postcards or use other expensive snail mail methods to advertise regularly. You and your team can easily spend hundreds, or even thousands of dollars on ACN Leads and never come close to recouping those costs.
